Qualitative tracking of 3-D objects using active contour networks

چکیده
Research in 3-D object tracking is typified by approaches which attempt to recover the six degrees of freedom of an object in each frame, e.g., [ l l , 14, 6 , 171. Once a correspondence between image and model features is determined, changes in the positions of image features in successive frames is used to update the pose of the object. Although providing accurate pose of the object at each frame, these techniques require an exact geometric specification of the object. At the other extreme, active contour methods have been used to track objects in the image with little or no knowledge of the 3-D object, e.g., [8, 13, 3, 21. However, these methods can only track the position of the object in the image and not its orientation. In this paper, we track changes in the appearance of the object as it moves from one frame to the next. At a symbolic level, an aspect graph clusters all the views of an object into a set of topologically distinct classes in terms of which surfaces of an object are visible from a given viewpoint (Koenderink and van Doorn [9]). Two nodes (or aspects) in the aspect graph are connected

A method for tracking the pose of known 3-D objects based on an active contour model
A method for tracking the pose of known 3{D objects moving with 6 degrees of freedom in space is described. The main idea is to split the tracking into two quasi autonomous working processes, one to track the 2{D outline (i.e. silhouette) of the object in an image sequence and one to track the full 3{D object pose based on the estimated 2{D outline. An active contour model utilizing a Kalman lt...
متن کاملA Novel Method for Tracking Moving Objects using Block-Based Similarity
Extracting and tracking active objects are two major issues in surveillance and monitoring applications such as nuclear reactors, mine security, and traffic controllers. In this paper, a block-based similarity algorithm is proposed in order to detect and track objects in the successive frames. We define similarity and cost functions based on the features of the blocks, leading to less computati...

In this paper, we address the problem of tracking video objects through several frames. We present a new tracking algorithm using the active contour theory framework. Our first contribution is to define a new tracking criterion combining geometrical and regionbased features. Our second contribution is to provide the differentiation of the criterion and to deduce the evolution equation of the ac...
متن کاملIntegrating Qualitative and Quantitative Object Representations in the Recovery and Tracking of 3-D Shape
Data-driven models such as active contours in 2-D and deformable surfaces in 3-D have become prevalent in the computer vision community, particularly in the areas of shape tracking and shape recovery. They provide an important alternative to typical model-based recognition and tracking approaches that assume knowledge of the exact geometry of the object. Despite the power of these approaches, d...

We show that previously proposed algorithms are efficient only for constant average velocity objects howev...
